Useful Program is a potentially unwanted program, meaning a software that even though is malicious it won’t be detected as a virus by antivirus software; and it’s called “potentially unwanted” because it usually arrives at our computers without our knowledge.
Funny though, there’s nothing actually useful about Useful Program, specially since it overwhelms us with tons of ads while we browse the net. It will go as far as it has to in order to achieve its goal of showing those ads, for example it will modify on real time the source code of every website you visit to add its publicity, specially e-commerce websites such as Amazon. These ads can be seen in pop-ups, banners, and green or blue links among the text of your websites. The ads are usually seen with the title Ads by Useful Program, or Powered by Useful Program.
Useful Program also works as a spy, checking your system’s config and saving every data about it, the goal is to build a huge database with information like this that can be sold afterwards.
To avoid falling in this kind of annoying issue in the future, verify everything you install on your system. Always check what the default install is hiding before going for the “Next” button.
