Spora Ransomware as its name says it, it’s a ransomware; one of the worst kind of viruses available in the IT world today. What Spora Ransomware’s developers are looking for is quite simple, to crypt all your personal files… meaning pictures, videos, word documents, and so on that won’t be available to you if you’re infected.
When you restart your computer you’ll find yourself welcomed by a website (like the one shown below) with a message explaining that all your data has been encrypted. To recover such files you are asked to pay.
Spora Ransomware goes after Chrome users, by means of telling them that they need an alleged update to be able to read certain websites. We had recently reported this issue. You can read our article here: “The HoeflerText font wasn’t found“.
As if this wasn’t enough, you’ll find a lot of websites that will make you hope you can recover your files. Be careful because this are all lies. Sadly there’s no way (as up today) to recover them. You might try with Shadow Explorer, hoping that it will recover one of Windows’ backups, but be aware that chances of this working are very low.
What you can and must do is remove Spora Ransomware as quickly as possible, as well as copy all encrypted files to an external hard drive, with the hope that one day you’ll have the right key.
