SaferDNS or SafeDNS, is a malicious program that changes your DNS settings without asking for your approval, therefore it can be considered a DNS Hijacker. Redirect DNS true values or DNS Hijacking is done by replacing DNS Server settings in a computer for other values useful for an specific purpose. On SaferDNS’ case there is a malicious program in charge of applying the needed changes.
Consequences of these modifications can be serious; websites you usually visit could be replaced by fake versions of them. In some cases it would take a most expert eye to even see the difference between fake and real website, the address where you are taken is indeed different, but visually you encounter a detailed copy of the website you were hoping to visit. This is indeed a great opportunity to steal your personal and bank information. Most of these cases are phishing attempts.
In some less dangerous cases, the DNS Hijacking is only done with advertising purposes. All ads shown on websites you visit are changed by SaferDNS managed ads, which will increase their advertising income.
