Discover Treasure is a potentially unwanted program that is being “offered” as an optional tool to people downloading free software whose install program has been modified. We call Discover Treasure potentially unwanted because there’s always a way to stop it from being installed, all it takes is a little awareness on our part when we’re installing software coming from the net.
Discover Treasure is actually installed at the same time as some free software downloaded from certain download platforms specialized in freeware like download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, etc… This websites offer install process where they combine the tool you’re looking for plus some optional programs (supposedly 100% virus free) that will pay them for being installed. This has been going on so much that we can easily say that installing freeware equals installing adware. You can stop this from happening by reading thoroughly every instruction given in each of the screens you pass while installing so you can reject any optional features you don’t want.
The minute Discover Treasure achieves a successful installation it starts spying and registering your online activity whilst also shows an annoying amount of ads. These ads can be seen as banners, pop-ups, fake results on Google or underlined words in blue/green among the text of every website you visit. It’s quite easy to spot Discover Treasure‘s publicity because it’s usually tagged as Ads by Discover Treasure or Discover Treasure Ads.
As told before, everything you do online can be seen and recorded by Discover Treasure, this malicious program saves different information about you like your OS system version, information about your browser, websites you visit, keywords from your searches, your IP address, your location, etc… among other data that could be used to identify you personally.
