Pop up (or pop-up) is the term to describe the ad windows that suddenly appear when you visit certain websites. All pop-ups are displayed without the user’s request. Some of them open and are automatically removed without the user’s knowledge.
There are two types of pop-up:
- The classic pop-up is displayed above the browser forcing the user to close the window or to minimize it to continue visiting the current page.
- The pop-under is displayed below the browser window, which makes it less intrusive but still a consumer of resources and bandwidth.
For several years the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera have set up anti-pop up protection in their program. These protections are effective in 90% of all cases. However, if there is a malicious program causing these pop-ups, they aren’t effective.
If you have pop-up ads that your browser does not close, the instructions below will help you remove the parasitic programs that probably inject these pop-ups on your computer. On the other hand, if you are absolutely sure that you don’t have a parasitic program, you can go directly to the last step to install an anti-pop up extension for your browser. However, if you have any doubt, follow the entire procedure. It is free and will allow you to get rid of hidden harmful programs that you may not be aware of.
