Linkey Project (linkeyproject.com) is an adware program designed by Aztec Media Inc. and gets installed when you download free software programs from portals such as Softonic or Cnet. These websites take the program that you wanted to download and put it into a different installer, which, if you’re not careful, will take advantage of the chance to install a whole bunch of adware programs that you don’t need. In Linkey’s case, it’s not a virus, but it’s quite annoying and potentially dangerous. Every time you try and open a new tab, the tab’s content will be replaced by a page with a whole bunch of links to websites, including well-known ones such as Youtube, Facebook, and Google, as well as lesser-known ones. These links are grouped into categories and Linkey can display whatever it pleases without you having touched a thing. Linkey affects Internet Explorer, as you can see by the screenshot below, but also, of course, Chrome and Firefox.
