Remove eFast

eFast is a malicious web browser that looks a lot like Chrome, the famous browser from Google. This shouldn’t surprise us because it so happens that Chrome is an open source web browser based on Chromium, meaning that anyone can use that source code as a base for their browsers. Sadly many companies misuse that characteristic to build malicious browsers.

And that’s how eFast Browser ends up taking hold of Chrome’s code and using all links meant to be opened in Chrome. eFast also shows unexpected ads both in pop-ups and pop-unders, and redirects the user’s browsing towards websites that are filled with malware. As expected, since every other program like this does the same, eFast saves information about every move you make online, plus it has access to personal data saved in your computer and it uses it to match the publicity shown to your interests. We have also noticed that eFast changes the default options of jpg, png, pdf, and html files so they are opened in eFast every time.

Security experts consider eFast a Trojan. You gave eFast full pass to install itself into your computer (although you though you were installing something else), and once it was installed it made sure it look like a harmless browser… nothing farther from the truth as it is quite dangerous instead.

As a desguise, eFast uses Chrome colors and imitates its appearance, also placing icons on your desktop towards popular websites like Amazon, Facebook, Wikipedia and/or YouTube. All of these actions are attempts to masquerade the fact that it will try to install malicious programs.

Finally we must say that this is nothing new, eFast is actually a new version of several others malicious browsers such as Tortuga, CrossBrowse, Unico Browser, BoBrowser are lately MyBrowser… all developed by Claralabs.

How to remove eFast ?

Remove eFast with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is an important security program for any computer user to have installed on their computer. It is light-weight, fast, and best of all, excellent at removing the latest infections like eFast.

• Download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware :
  Premium Version Free Version (without Real-time protection)
• Double-click mbam-setup-consumer.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• Once installed, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program, and that a scan has never been run on your system. To start a system scan you can click on the Fix Now button.
• Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will now check for updates, and if there are any, you will need to click on the Update Now button.
• Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will now start scanning your computer for eFast.
• When the scan is done, you will now be presented with a screen showing you the malware infections that Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware has detected. To remove the malicious programs that Malwarebytes Anti-malware has found, click on the Quarantine All button, and then click on the Apply Now button.
• Reboot your computer if prompted.
