Clip-HD is a browser extension that works on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox and as a Browser Helper Object on Internet Explorer. This malicious browser extension uses pop-ups and ad inserts with the reference ads by Clip-HD to promote particular websites.
Clip-HD is designed to record your browsing habits and make profit from revenues that come from ad display. Ads can be displayed through underlined keywords that show up pop-ups and other unwanted ads on your browser. The pop-ups vary from legitimate offers to the most dangerous threats to your computer via Java or Flash Player fake updates.
Both types of ads are a well-known method to trick a user. In fact, there is a thin line between a legitimate ad and an ad which attempts to insert potentially unwanted software.
You should always read the License Agreement and the Terms of Use before you install software on your computer. Never click quickly the “Next” button during the installation process otherwise there’s a good chance to install another unwanted program without noticing. If the installer has an Advanced or Custom Installation option, just click on it to check if the installation program intends to install an unwanted program like Clip-HD or not.
