Boxed Books is a software (or adware) that enters the most used browsers (meaning Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer), as an extension at the heart of these programs. Its objective is to post multiple ads, generally not very appealing, to sites that you visit in hopes of getting clicks to generate a profit (know that, on the web, every click on an ad brings money to its proprietor). All these ads are generally posted with the text ads by Boxed Books or powered by Boxed Books.
The site that contains the adware claims that you can surf the internet like never before with Boxed Books…that’s it. It’s also worth noting that the program is not available for download on this page.
This unwanted program doesn’t find its way to your computer by chance: Boxed Books needs the help of the user, which it gets with a trap. Actually, the cybercriminals make the sites, where the content generates the all-important traffic, for example streaming sites: when a user wishes to see a video, a fake message shows up and claiming that an update is required, under a false excuse (ex: you need an extension to view this video). This way, you install the program, not knowing it is malware, directly to your browser. Other creators of adware prefer disguising their program, so that the consumer mistakes it for another popular program. Once the download is accepted, Boxed Books becomes an independent extension or program on your PC.
