Back to back is an adware that is distributed among setup programs for free software found in certain download platforms. This technique allows cyber-criminals to achieve massive amounts of installations to users that would have never installed their tools otherwise.
Back to back was developed with two goals in mind: to distribute publicity and to collect personal data about every infected user.
Ads shown by Back to back can take the form of a pop-up, a banner, a fake result in Google or blue/green underlined words turned into links among the text of every visited website. Most of the time such ads are tagged as Back to back Ads or Powered by Back to back, this tag is what lets us find out we’ve been infected.
Back to back is usually installed at the same time as some free tool found in certain download websites, such as soft32.com, softonic.com, download.com, etc… These pages offer their free software in packed setup programs that include other tools supposedly “free of malware”. It’s because of this that nowadays installing a freeware normally means installing a malware also. You can stop this from happening by being very aware of every step of the install process and rejecting any optional tools offered.
The previous image is a preview of Back to back’s official website that serves for nothing more than to make public their conditions of use; conditions you accept by installing the software.
