Tapsnake is an alert message that tries to convince you that you’ve been infected by a virus, with views of convincing you to download a malicious software. These messages can tell you that you have been infected with the Tapsnake virus,  with dRoid.Tapsnake32 or PC/Tapsnake.

This ad refers to an actual app that existed only for Android and that has been subject to surveillance for some time now. PlayStore offered a Tapsnake app that was actually a commercial spying app called GPS SPY.  Once it was open it was impossible to close the game entirely. It remained on background all the time and was capable of restarting every time the phone was restarted too. Of course this meant that the phone resources were becoming scarce. Tapsnake sends information about the GPS position of the spied phone every 15 minutes to a remote server. GPS SPY was, as you can see a simply spying app costing $ 4.99. After buying the app, the user was prompted to download and install the Tapsnake game directly in the phone he or she wanted to spy on. Thus, physical access to the phone was needed.

Back to the fake alert messages, they try to convince you that the actual Tapsnake app is installed in your computer. Here’s an example of such ads in Windows Phone:

On mobile there’s not much to do besides avoiding clicking those ads. You can also clear your cache and eventually re-install your browser app if possible.
